It's that time of year already. It's in between winter and spring. All I can think about are my seed catalogs and those raised garden beds I've dreamed of for years. Hopefully this will be my year.
I have a dream of four, four by eight foot raised beds with gravel in the bottom for drainage, filled with potting soil and with compost mixed in. Each bed would then have four metal posts at each end which would hold plastic mesh to keep the cats out of them. I'd plant tomatoes with marigolds in one, pole beans and zucchini in another. The third would be nothing but strawberries, and the forth would hold our lettuce and radishes.
I'd surround the entire garden with a white picket fence. The back corners would have sunflowers growing in each one with a birdbath in the center. The left front corner would have a birdhouse up on a spindle pole painted white with a blue roof. There would be a gate on the front right side with those old black metal hinges and a latch to keep it secure. I'd place gravel all around the outside of each bed for walking and a park bench for resting.
Wouldn't that be a peaceful place for growing things.
Thanks for sharing my dream with me today. :)
Sounds like a dream! :) I also dream of having a little food growing at home. I think we might just buy a fruit tree this year. Where we live we can only have about two of those and maybe a salsa garden in a raised bed. I don't know if that will grow well altogether. To be honest, I don't know much about gardening, but I do want one. We might just grow one new food item every year. I don't have a green thumb so I have to go easy on myself! :)

Tomato plants are easy to grow Rosemi. The secret to sweet tomatoes with less acid is to add powdered lime to the soil when you plant them. I also add Miracle Grow to their water once a week during the growing season. I hope to get this garden this year. We will see.
ReplyDeleteI did successfully grow a medium sized tomato plant one year, that gave me three tomatoes, before those ugly green worms devoured it! That is so discouraging. I think I'll try again this year, but I'll have that special cone shaped wire around it and drape bug netting over it. That should keep them away.
DeleteOh yes, I saw those ugly green worms on my tomatoes too last year. That was the first time I saw those. They're called Tomato Horn Worms. Hand picking them off and putting them in soapy water is the best way I think.
