All is Well

The weather didn't get bad here last night. We did get some rain but no flooding nor power issues like our neighbors down south did. We were lucky.

I'm coming out of a two week stint of intense pain and stiffness with this Fibromyalgia. When it rains or there's a threat of it, my body screams in agony.
The sun is out today though and the pain isn't near what it was. So when I don't post very often, you'll know I'm just not feeling well. Better today though.

I'm taking a short break right now from sewing blocks for that rag quilt. I hope to have all the blocks together by tonight and should be able to start sewing them together tomorrow. This will be the largest quilt I've made to date and can't wait until it's finished.

This and That

It continues to rain here and tonight the storms could be severe they're saying with perhaps a tornado too! All the cats are inside or safe in shelters I've made for them.

"Peety" has done well after his surgery and is running around like he hasn't a care in the world.

I'm hoping to do some shopping for tomato and other plants this weekend. A family of Mennonites have a nursery close by and carry the finest plants in the area at reasonable prices too!

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone has had a nice Easter.
We spent ours quietly at home in prayer of thanks for Christ's greatest sacrifice.

Signs of Spring

I managed to get outside and take a few photos.

Some of the strawberries are growing in pots this year.

The lilac is still young so I'm not sure if it will bloom this year.

The dogwood has large blooms to be so small.

Got my flower and vegetable seed ordered and looking forward to getting those planted. Gotta get the beds ready first though. Hopefully the rain will end soon so we can.

Still Working on That Quilt

This one is going to be a big one with 100 blocks 8" x 10". I told Ray we could use a quilt large enough that neither of us can pull off one another in the night.

"Peety" has a neuter appointment on monday.

I always worry when one of my babies is going to have surgery.

More rain is coming this evening and perhaps some heavy storms.

A Busy Day

After a day of heavy rain yesterday, the grass has doubled in height and the drones of lawn tractors are ringing through the valley on this sunny afternoon.
I guess everyone's wanting to get ahead of the yard work before the weekend arrives. The weatherman is predicting more rain here for Friday and Saturday.

Today was spent cutting blocks for a rag quilt. I'm using that same fabric line called "Sip of Summer" on this one too. It's going to be really nice when it's done.

A Work in Progress

It's late but I can't seem to get to sleep so I thought I'd post a pic of the table runner I've started.

I love those citrus colors. It's going to take a little longer to make it than I thought but we'll get it finished.

Today's Project

Found a new project I'm going to work on today from our friends at This N That Fabrics.
This free pattern is called Fresh Pears.
Click on the link for your free pattern. You can also choose from more of their free patterns here.

I'm going to use some bright citrus colored fabrics for mine. The line is called Sip of Summer from Connecting Threads.

I'll post a pic when it's finished.

Home Again

Sissy and her kittens were returned to our neighbor this morning. I'm not sure they're happy about it but the responsibility lies with them. We took care of their cat and fed her all winter. We even kept her kittens for a month in hopes of finding homes for them, however after two vicious attacks on our other inside cats, Sissy and the kittens were moved outside on the porch.

With all the other cats around here and the strays that show up at night, I wasn't comfortable leaving them out there either. So after going through every possible scenario, we had no alternative but to send them home to the neighbor where they belong. We're sure they will return in time to eat like the rest of their cats do, so when that day comes, a call to the animal shelter will be made. I did learn that the animal control officer takes them to a shelter for adoption and that the killing pound had been shut down. So for that, I can now sleep at night knowing good homes will be found if need be.

A Beautiful Day!

This is one of those days you wish you could feel every day. It's not hot and it's not cold either. There's a cool gentle breeze kissing here and there and most of the cats are napping.

While they were out of the way I made some shortbread.
Traditional shortbread isn't as sweet as I make it but this recipe is yummy!

Shortbread

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 ¼ cups flour
1 tsp vanilla

Cream butter and vanilla and then add sugar. Gradually add flour a little at a time. Roll out dough on lightly dusted surface to 1/4 inch thickness. (I use powdered sugar instead of flour to roll them in. That way there's no flour left on them after they're baked.) Cut them out and bake at 300° for 22 minutes.
