A Wet Week

Yes, it's been a wet week here in Hitchins. Alot of rain around here also means flooded fields too. This has happened to a few neighbors down the road. One has a field of corn flooded while another has tobacco under water. The water is up under the bridges quite a bit as well but not enough to flood out the bridge as has happened in the past.
Luckily we live high enough on a hill for flooding not to be a problem.

  1. Hi Robin!

I think what was left of the rain has travelled across the Atlantic and fallen on us this week with some very heavy showers. Our ground is so dry because we haven't had our normal rainfall this year but at this rate I reckon it'll soon catch up!
It's certainly made everything grow pretty fast in the garden too!

  2. Hi Robin!

We have the opposite problem where I am. We are having a really bad drought at the moment. My pasture is like an arid dustbowl, all my lettuces are bolting where it's so dry. I'm also concerned because I hear that hay and straw are going to be in short supply this year, so I have to get our animals sorted out for winter.

I'm glad you live high enough to avoid flooding. I live below sea level, so that's another worry!

  3. Hi Grandma and Emma!

We have our drought season coming up. August is our dry month but the heat has been horrible lately. The heat and humidity has combined to make for a steamy, and dangerously humid day.
I have the cats indoors under the air conditioning and none are in a hurry to go outside.
I made Penny and her kittens a shady tent on the side porch with a fan blowing cool air around inside, and plenty of water too. They showed up last night half starved and have had two large cans of cat food and a bowl of dry food since last night. Penny needs to keep them around here but when the minister starts mowing next door, they head under the shed on the hill where they stay for a day or more.
They're getting more used to me and that's a good thing.

Emma, sounds like you're going to need to invest in some grain this year.
